origami project
by leonardo, sileō
A series that combines the art of origami with instant photography, in the form of polaroid emulsion lift.
Medium
Emulsion lifts, paper art.
Year
2015 - 2016
Analog photography intersects, fold by fold, with the Japanese art of paper folding known as origami.
In the artist’s hands, an ordinary sheet of paper transcends its nature, transforming, like a creation myth, into something greater. From cellulose to pure idea, a concept in and of itself, drawn from the mind of its creator.
Unlike origami, photography is a sort of deduction from reality. It takes pre-existing concepts and fixes them, immortalizing them forever. The flow of the world before the camera lens is independent of the observer, who can do nothing but assume the role of a spectator, unable to act.
